Eco-Schools Programme

Agora International School Madrid has recently joined the Eco-Schools programme, a global project developed by the Asociación de Educación Ambiental (the Association for Environmental Education or ADEAC) and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), designed to promote sustainability in education.  The programme rewards Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools that have focused on developing a clearly defined environmental strategy with “Green Flag” status. Eight other schools belonging to the Globeducate group in Spain have also signed up to this initiative, including Agora Sant Cugat International School, Barcelona, Agora Lledó International School, Castellón and Areteia School, Madrid.

José Ramón Sánchez Moro, ADEAC’s President has been talking with our Secondary and 6th Form students to congratulate them for the environmental work already in progress at the school and to assure them of the importance of their commitment to this project. Agora Madrid has a made a long-term commitment to environmental and sustainability issues, and we continue to work towards our goal of becoming a Green Flag school. Gerard O’Donnell, Agora Madrid’s Headteacher, has emphasised his support for the programme indicating that “if future generations are to have a different future, right now we must do things differently”, adding that one of Globeducate’s overall goals is to ensure that all their Spanish Schools, and ultimately all 54 schools belonging to the Globeducate group, become active participants in the Eco-Schools programme.
